Anthony Gantner is a sixth generation San Franciscan whose family hearkens back to the establishment of Mission Dolores and the founding of the Presidio by the Spanish Californios in 1776. Several years ago, Mr. Gantner ran for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and it was that experience which inspired him to write Eye of the Parrot. For many years, Mr. Gantner was a Downtown attorney before becoming a café lawyer and “sipping” slowly into retirement. He lived most of his life on Telegraph Hill, enjoying his verdurous garden where the cherry-headed parrots often visited for extemporaneous chatter and bonhomie.
